How the conception date is estimated

This conception date calculator works backwards from a due date or birth date to estimate when conception likely occurred. A full‑term pregnancy is typically counted as 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP). Conception usually happens around 14 days after LMP for a 28‑day cycle — that’s roughly 38 weeks before the due date.

If you know the exact birth date of a full‑term baby, the calculator assumes a 40‑week gestation and subtracts 266 days (38 weeks) to find the conception window. You can also adjust for shorter or longer menstrual cycles: ovulation shifts earlier or later. For example, with a 21‑day cycle, ovulation often occurs around day 7; with a 35‑day cycle, around day 21. The tool automatically accounts for these variations.

Remember that conception dates are only estimates; sperm can survive up to five days, and ovulation timing can vary. Use this when did I conceive calculator as a helpful guide for understanding your pregnancy timeline. Always consult your healthcare provider for medical advice.
