New Tool: Coffee Ratio Calculator

I’ve been making coffee at home for years — pour-over, French press, occasionally an Aeropress. And for years, I’d find myself standing in the kitchen at 7 a.m., staring at the bag of beans, doing the same dumb math:

“Okay, I want 400 ml of coffee. I usually use a 1:16 ratio. So 400 divided by 16 … that’s … 25 grams? Wait, is that right? And if I only want a smaller cup, say 250 ml, then it’s … 15.6 grams? But my scale only reads whole grams …”

I’d reach for my phone, open the calculator app, type it in, second guess myself, and then just eyeball it. Sometimes the coffee came out weak. Sometimes it was too strong. It wasn’t a huge problem, but it was a tiny friction every single morning.

I figured: I can’t be the only one.

Why not just use an app or a chart?

There are a dozen coffee ratio charts on the internet — and a handful of apps. But I found that most of them either:

I wanted something stripped down: give it two numbers (water volume and ratio) and get the coffee dose instantly. Or, flip it: give it coffee weight and ratio, and it tells you how much water to add. No signup, no ads, no fluff.

What this tool actually does

The Coffee Ratio Calculator lets you choose between two modes:

It works for any ratio from 1:10 (strong espresso-style) to 1:20 (lighter brews). You can toggle between metric and imperial. That’s it. No hidden features, no brew guide library, no subscription.

It’s a small tool, but it’s one I actually use every day. If you’ve ever stood in your kitchen doing the same mental arithmetic — or just wanted one less thing to think about in the morning — I hope it helps.
