Perfect coffee ratio, every time

Getting the coffee to water ratio right is the easiest way to transform your daily brew. Whether you use a French press, pour-over, or drip machine, the same logic applies: too little coffee yields weak, sour extraction; too much leads to bitterness. This calculator uses the 1:15 to 1:20 range – the golden zone for most methods. A 1:17 ratio (our default) means 1 gram of coffee for every 17 ml of water. Just enter your water or coffee amount, pick your ratio, and the tool instantly tells you the missing number.

If you’ve ever asked “how much coffee per cup?” – a standard US cup is 240 ml (8 oz). Using a 1:17 ratio, that’s about 14 grams of ground coffee. But because taste varies, we give you full control: dial it up to 1:14 for a stronger, darker sip, or go 1:20 for a lighter, tea-like body. The calculator works both ways: start with water to find coffee, or start with coffee to find water. No more guesswork, no more wasted beans.

Pro tip for consistent results: always use a kitchen scale for coffee grounds (volume scoops vary), and make sure your water is filtered. For most drip brewers, the ideal window is between 1:16 and 1:18. This tool works perfectly for espresso ratios, too (try 1:2 or 1:3) – just pick the custom ratio that matches your recipe. Bookmark it for your morning ritual.
